On taking risks

It is important for people to take risks, both in their professional and personal lives.
Do you think the advantages of taking risks outweigh the disadvantages?

Taking risks is said to be an essential part both in and outside one’s career. Although this carries a possibility of great loss, I believe people can benefit more from embracing uncertainties as there is more room for professional advancements and personal growth

On the one hand, one must acknowledge there are valid arguments for those who want to play safe. In professional terms, this allows them to steer clear of losing their current financial status, which is inarguably the largest downside. There are numerous businesses who jeopardize their own career with reckless decision making and lose heaps of money when investing in a risk-loaded market. Regarding personal choices, heeding a reckless lifestyle may even be lethal. Dangerous as it is, many people still line up to do adrenaline-ridden sports like bungee jumping and skydiving. Such extreme hobbies reward partakers with doses of thrill but many a time have also taken their lives. As a result, working and living risk-free are generally perceived to be safer.

Albeit inadvisable to heed reckless intuition, I am inclined to the belief that calculated risks effect better outcomes. The most evident advantage is the acceleration of one’s career. For example, it is almost universally considered risky to change jobs incessantly. Some employees choose to dedicate years at an unsatisfying low-paying job, while those who attempt multiple positions and fields are more likely to reap success working for a job they actually enjoy. More importantly, risks shape personality. Learning to decipher which option would generate a better likelihood of success alone trains one to be discerning and analytical. Also, people can explore the depths of their personality when venturing out of their comfort zone. Combined, these lessons further enhance one’s chance of making it in life.

To sum up, the gains one makes when he or she risks far outweigh the loss that one might be subjected to. The demerits of uncalculated risks can easily be curbed when one learns not to act upon their impulses.
